A customer from Baltimore, Maryland, summed
up the shopping experience at the Keys Gift
Shop best. "This is a very unique place. I spent
a lot of money but I had a lot of fun doing
it. I bought gifts for my husband, my daughter,
my neighbor and even for my cat. I am coming
back to Orlando just to shop at this wonderful
store".
The principals of the Keys Gift Shop are Brady
Keys, and Len Burnett. Both are former professional
football players with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
DIVERSITY
The
Keys Gift Shop received the Vision Award for Diversity
given by the Downtown Orlando Partnership. A former
employee, who is now an executive with a television
station, nominated the business for this award.
Below is the letter of nomination written by the
former employee:
"-----The
Keys Gift Shop employs over 20 people
who come
from multiple ethnic cultures. These cultures
includes African Americans, Filipinos,
Cubans,
Ecuadorians, Puerto Ricans, Venezuelans and
a member of the Jewish faith.
These employees are organized into a spirited
and cohesive team whose primary objective is
customer service. However the company encourages
and promotes their ethnic differences. This
is done through a monthly Ethnic Appreciation
Day. On this day, employees representing a particular
culture give a presentation and lecture about
their culture or country to other employees.
They also bring food that they feel is representative
of their culture.
As a result of our ethnic celebrations, we have
not only found out how beautiful our differences
are, we have discovered that our similarities
are even more magnificent. ----- "
COMMUNITY SERVICE
The
Keys Gift Shop is an active and supportive member
of the Orlando community. Its philosophy is "
invest in your community and you invest in your
business". Some of the Keys Gift Shop community
activities are as follows:
GUN BUY-BACK
The Keys Gift Shop with the support of its vendors,
high school, Orlando Police Department and businessmen
organized a Gun Buy-Back and took 288 guns off
of the streets of Orlando.
RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS
The Keys Gift Shop with the support of the
Orlando Police Department, a community organization,
and a bank organized a Random Acts of Kindness
program under which it gave awards to individuals
who demonstrated random acts of kindness.
FEED THE HOMELESS
On several occasions, the Keys Gift Shop has
brought airport officials, businessmen, community
workers and others to feed the homeless at the
Homeless Coalition Capitol in Orlando, FL.
DRUG PREVENTION
The Keys Gift Shop has sponsored the appearance
of the hostess of national TV drug prevention
program to make appearances in public schools
and youth organizations in Orlando.
